U.S. Sen. Alan Dixon`s letter, ”No single assault will win the war on drugs,” assumes too much-that we`re all with him in his so-called war on drugs. He doesn`t seem to have a clue that one of the major reasons the ”war on drugs” doesn`t get anywhere is that there are many Americans who are antiwar.
Many outstanding Americans not only see ever-increasing violations of liberty of conscience and choice in the war on drugs, but also that its legal structure is based on lies about the relative dangers of various drugs-for example, that marijuana and crack should be considered equal enough to be included under the same law. Many believe that the ”drug warriors” are a greater threat to our liberties than drugs are.
Millions of us are tired of tyranny-by-the-majority, zero-tolerance fascism. I suggest that those who don`t see it Dixon`s way ”just say no” at the ballot box the next time Dixon runs. Why do we need neo-Puritans in office who always think they know what`s best for everyone else`s ”health” and
”safety”?
