Any time 5,500 people get together to raise $56,000 for children, you know it`s quite a party. But this year`s installment of the World`s Largest Office Party-an annual blowout in the Hyatt Regency Chicago to benefit Wally Phillips` Neediest Kids Fund-proved that some party styles have changed.
Spirits (liquid and seasonal) were of course high. But the Pepsi bars were mobbed. Radio station WNUA`s featured drink was a fruit-juice cooler. And River North Distributing, a Budweiser wholesaler, provided free rides home for drivers who had failed to designate.
”Excess isn`t in anymore, in work or play,” summed up Shari Cartwright, associate director of public relations for the hotel.
