Conference-leading St. Benedict blew out St. Gregory behind sophomore forward Carolina Reyes` 16 points and 11 rebounds Monday night in a Chicagoland Prep contest.

Carol Dennis and Denise Hamilton added 15 points apiece to St. Benedict`s 78-53 victory, raising their record to 12-7, 5-0.

Buffy Petrosino had 25 points and 7 assists to lead the Greyhounds

(6-8, 2-5), who were still in the game at 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.

But the Lady Bengals, who were also paced by Jeanne Weber`s 12 points, used a 21-6 scoring run in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

”Our press hurt them in the second quarter and in the second half,”

said St. Benedict coach Joe Cullotta. ”And Carolina (Reyes) is playing well. She`s only a sophomore, but she`ll definitely be a Division I candidate in the next two years.”

St. Edward 60, Rockford Boylan 51-Ingrid Crane (17 points), Ann Krecker (16) and Heather Clausen (13) sparked St. Edward (11-6) to a nonconference upset over Rockford Boylan (17-2). Julie Moore had 16 to lead the losers, who were outscored 35-20 in the second half.
