Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
I am angered and dumbfounded at The Tribune`s selection of Robert Mapplethorpe as artist of the year.
However, in reviewing most of The Tribune`s candidates for this award, it becomes apparent that The Tribune`s art staff views rebellion and insult as the more highly esteemed ”contributions” an artist can render society.
It is unfortunate that the original intent and definition of art, ”to appeal to the taste and sense of beauty,” has been denied in lieu of that which is pornographic, obscene and strongly objectionable.
Your staff has certainly shown innovation in its decision to award Mapplethorpe the ”Artist of the Year” award, but by doing so has certainly taken the honor out of this award.
