Du Page County does not need a convention center. Since when do we find it prudent to go into competition with good taxpaying entities that derive their revenue from convention business? For shame, the $20 million that is available will be forever lost if the funds are not used.
The interest on $20 million at 8 percent would yield $1.6 million, a rather tidy sum that can be used to educate drinkers and drug users. That could help alleviate the wasteful expenditures of $123.6 million to build a 900-bed jail addition.
It is a shame our county government has not learned how to stop wasting taxpayers` money.
