In a recent letter, Jane Barrett called former President Jimmy Carter a
”self-serving hypocrite.” I should like to submit a minority report. On second thought, I think it might be a majority report.
A case in point is the perception by many thoughtful observers that the long and tedious negotiations by the Carter administration were largely responsible for the release of the hostages early in the Reagan
administration. President Carter is entitled to our respect and gratitude.
