Regarding Andrew Bagnato`s Feb. 18 article on Notre Dame`s TV deal with NBC: In my 40-some years I`ve read numerous articles by fawning sycophants singing the praises of Notre Dame, but this one takes the cake.
While I`ve seen many references to ”Touchdown Jesus,” this was the first to refer to Notre Dame as ”God`s Green Acre.”
It says the deal wasn`t motivated by television exposure, but to set aside more money for academic scholarships. Sure!
There are millions of people in the U.S. who find Notre Dame to be a highly overrated academic institution, as well as a phony. All we ask is that Tribune writers treat Notre Dame the same as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin. Praise it when it deserves it, but don`t treat its every action as if it were ordained by God.
