Formed: Spring 1987, North Side.

Personnel: Ellis Clark, lead vocals, bass; John A. Krenger, backing vocals, rhythm guitar; Teri Minx, backing vocals, lead guitar. Augmenting the lineup live and in the studio: V-2 Schneider, keyboards, backing vocals; Mars Williams, saxophone; Shawn Connley, drums, percussion.

Current lineup together since: Summer 1989.

Sound: ”We call it rock-a-delic-sort of psychedelic and hard rock combined,” Clark says.

Influences: ”Anywhere from Iggy Pop to `60s psychedelia to some of the current hard rock,” Clark says.

In-concert cover versions: A hard-rock/dance version of Dale Hawkins`

”Susie Q” and David Bowie`s ”Rebel Rebel,” which Clark says the band plays ”for giggles.”

Co-starred with: Opened for the Neville Brothers at Park West. Will play on a bill with Eric Burdon (of the Animals) Wednesday at the China Club in Los Angeles.

Ed McMahon incident: Clark was on ”Star Search” last summer in the male-vocal category. ”I tied,” he says, ”and then a bunch of old ladies voted for the guy with the squeaky clean face.”

Recordings: The group`s next record, ”Uber den `Berlin Wall,` ” comes out March 15 on CD and cassette on Social/Why Me? Records. It`s a compilation of Social Act`s three years together, including four new cuts and acoustic versions of older songs.

Goals: ”To reach as many people as possible with our music and to do music that we can feel good about,” Clark says. ”To please ourselves and hopefully the result would be to please others.”

Next appearance: March 22, a listening party at Union; the band will be present but will not play.
