Your recent editorial urging Congress to fund the $5 million for the Deep Tunnel`s O`Hare reservoir construction demonstrates the insidious pervasiveness of the pork-barrel.
The 500,000 structure owners and their 52 communities who save $140 million annually should gladly contribute the 3.5 percent needed for construction of this vital link. Otherwise, either the savings are overstated or the project is overrated.
Congress should stick to providing for the common defense of this nation, regulating commerce among the states, coining money, delivering the mail, building roads and other transportation needs and protecting patents and copyrights.
Beyond that, I`m tired of a bloated federal bureaucracy involved in every nook and cranny of our life.
