There`s only one way to launder the University of Illinois` athletic mess: Do what Chancellor Robert Maynard Hutchins of the University of Chicago did 50 years ago: Drop sports except for the intramural variety and pull out of the Big Ten.
I don`t know whether U. of I. President Stanley Ikenberry or Chancellor Morton Weir have that authority, or the guts to do it.
