The board of Pace, the suburban bus arm of the RTA, has voted to schedule public hearings March 31 on the issue of a proposed 40-cent increase in the amount it charges a Pace rider to transfer to the CTA system.

Hearings will be held at 10 a.m. that day at the Park Ridge Public Library, 505 Park Pl., Park Ridge; Bellwood Village Hall, 3200 Washington Blvd., Bellwood; and at the Harvey City Hall, 15320 Broadway, Harvey.

The Pace board on Wednesday considered a proposal from its staff to raise fares to $1.50 from $1.10 for cash-paying riders who are transferring to the CTA. The increase, the staff said, will match the amount that the CTA has raised its fares.

At the same time though, the staff recommended that Pace reduce the cost of its passes to $45 from $50 a month, again to match the CTA`s new weekday rate.

The board indicated it would vote on the proposal after the public hearings at its April 4 meeting.
