I find it sad that Mary Zeiss Stange likens the loss of her friendship with Ted and Diane ”to the experience of those who lose friends or family members to fanatical religious sects.”

Ted and Diane`s offense is that they have ceased communicating with her because they have become animal rights advocates while she has become a hunter and fur-wearer.

She says ”salvaging the relationship would mean aspiring to a hypocrisy I do not possess.” I imagine that is exactly the conclusion Ted and Diane reached. Indeed, her former friends sound like two caring and sincere people, and I wonder if Ms. Stange has any idea of the pain they must feel in knowing that someone they loved has taken to killing animals for sport.
