There is a lot of very good Sonny Rollins tenor sax work on this reissue of a 1957 recording, including a tenor/drum duet with Philly Joe Jones on
”The Surrey With the Fringe on Top” that pointed the way toward the minimal settings Rollins used later in his career. As always, the improvising is direct and intelligent, the sound unique. (Reviewed on CD.)
