Occupation: Entertainer.
Birthday: April 3, 1942.
Birthplace: Norfolk, Va.
Current home: Las Vegas.
Marital status: Engaged to Marla Heasley; we`ll get married this summer.
Child: Erin, 13.
Car: I drive my daughter to school in a Toyota van. I go to work in a Rolls-Royce or a Ferrari.
Working on: My book ”Wayne Newton: Once Before I Go”; my album ”The Best of Wayne Newton”; a film, ”Ford Fairlane,” which will be out in June; my night club act; and a new film, Neil Simon`s ”The Marrying Man.”
Nicknames: Geronimo and Chief. Anything else is behind my back.
Favorite performer: On stage, the premier performer of all time is Sammy Davis Jr. Bobby Darin was on the same level.
Prized possession: The love and respect of my daughter.
Every New Year`s I resolve: Not to resolve. I figure that`s one more pressure on me that I don`t need.
Nobody knows I`m: Too sensitive.
I wish I could stop: Being a perfectionist.
I`ve never been able to: Find the gray zone in life. It`s either black or white with me.
I`d give anything to have met: Howard Hughes. More than anyone else, he followed the beat of his own drum more than he. The way he ended his life is a great lesson for all of us who now and then have this feeling to go to the mountaintop all alone.
If I just had more time, I`d: Get together with five or six people and have a drink. I hardly ever get a chance to.
The worst part of my job is: People`s perception that I can right all wrongs and cure all ills.
My fantasy is: I`m on a plantation, astride one of my horses, with no place to go or reason to hurry back.
The worst advice my mother ever gave me was: ”Treat others as you`d like to be treated.” It doesn`t work.
Nobody would believe it if they saw me: Clean a horse stall.
My most humbling experience: Being in the presence of Dr. DeBakey. If I could, I`d will him a part of my life.
Three words that best describe me: Compassionate, caring and hardheaded.
