I appreciate the Tribune`s willingness to publish my Voice of the people piece about Illinois` collapsing child welfare system. One editorial change requires correction.

I said in my discussion of pending lawsuits against the state that the state`s lawyers ”can only delay the inevitable” results in those cases.

You changed that sentence to read that the ”lawyers hired by the state know they can only delay the inevitable” (emphasis added).

Although I am quite critical of the state`s resistance to litigation aimed at reforming the child welfare system, I did not intend to criticize the tactics of opposing counsel or to attribute to them any intent to delay resolution of the pending cases against the state.
