Ameritech will consolidate its data processing operations, trimming 700 positions over a five-year period from the 2,200 now employed, the company announced Thursday. The changeover, which the company said won`t require any layoffs, will transfer work now being done at 14 locations spread around the Midwest to four regional centers in Chicago, Akron, Pewaukee, Wis., and Southfield, Mich.
