Our hat is off to William Raspberry, whose column in the March 13 Tribune called for black people with brains and black celebrities with money to start a program to improve the lot of black society.

This is constructive thinking, contrary to the theme of so- called black leaders who whine for more government aid and charge ”whitey” with discrimination and genocide.

When the black community disavows its so-called leaders and starta a bona fide self-help program, most whites will be enthusiastic supporters and contributors. Until then, any aid is treating the symptoms, not the cancer.
