Obviously 256,466 Republicans disregarded the Tribune`s endorsement of Secretary of State Jim Edgar for governor of Illinois.

Baer focused on Edgar`s positions on taxes and abortion and the message hit home, and 256,466 Republicans chose to declare their dissatisfaction with the spend-and-tax philosophy in the name of ”education” and appeasement of the pro-choice liberals.

The March 22 Tribune editorial describes Steven Baer`s strong showing as an ”anti-abortion” and ”anti-tax” siren song. Now it remains to be seen if the GOP and Jim Edgar can disregard Baer`s ”strong showing.” I think not.
