Transportation Secretary Sam Skinner wants a new runway at O`Hare to reduce air traffic delays. Gov. Thompson, who was against a new runway, is doing a flip-flop and is now agreeing with his old aide.

Another runway will give the airlines a reason for more flights, thereby placing O`Hare in the same position as before. Skinner is bowing to the airlines` pressure.

If the state officials are so concerned with delays at the airport, the simple solution would be to cut down on the flights, which of course would displease the airlines.
