– Thornwood 12, Thornridge 2-Winning pitcher Craig Gronowski (6-1) hurled a two-hitter and was 3 for 3 with an RBI, Cliff Floyd had two home runs and six RBIs, Dave McNally had two RBIs, and John Dunlop and Ed Eggebrecht had two hits apiece as No. 1 Thornwood (18-2, 8-0 in the SICA East) won its 16th in a row.

– Lake Forest 9, Antioch 3-Jay Geraghty hurled a four-hitter, Mike Stamison, Paul Pezza and Alan Benes all had two hits and two RBIs and Todd Halkyard doubled, tripled and scored twice for No. 4 Lake Forest (20-4, 13-1) in the North Suburban.

– Naperville Central 7, Glenbard North 2-No. 5 Naperville Central (18-3, 13-2) rolled in the Du Page Valley as Dave Dutton (7-0) hurled a six-hitter and keyed a four-run third with a two-run homer. Pat Thornton (2 for 2) had a two-run double and James Cameron a two-run single.

– Oak Park 9, York 2-Wally Panoski (6-1) pitched a four-hitter, and Paul Petrulis, Joel Neavil, Robert Young and Jim Sisco each had two RBIs for No. 6 Oak Park (19-4, 13-3) in the West Suburban Silver.

– Simeon 8, Carver 0-Ron Davis (two RBIs), winning pitcher John Carter (two RBIs), Darwin Davis (two RBIs) and Quinton Lee had two hits apiece as No. 9 Simeon (18-3, 7-1) tuned up for Monday`s Public League Southwest showdown with Harlan.

– Evanston 5, New Trier 0-Mike Maroto gave up three hits and whiffed five for his second shutout and Sloane Smith hit a two-run homer as No. 10 Evanston

(17-4, 10-3) gained a tie with New Trier (16-6, 10-3) in the Central Suburban South.

– Harlan 10, Fenger 0-Glenn Evans hurled a no-hitter, struck out eight and walked one, Charles McGraw was 4 for 4 with two RBIs, Larry Minter had a two- run homer (his ninth) and Telly Mott added two hits and an RBI as Harlan

(17-5, 8-0) remained atop the Public League Southwest. Fenger fell to 14-7, 7-2.

– Joliet Central 1, Andrew 0-Eric Pedersen (two-hitter) outdueled Chris Delaney (six-hitter), and Chris Travica (2 for 3) delivered a run-scoring second-inning single as Joliet Central (13-8, 7-1) retained first place in the SICA West.

– Lindblom 10, Kennedy 2-LeShawn Hawkins (8-1) scattered four hits and fanned 10, and David Dugan (3 for 4, double, triple, two RBIs), Desmond McKeever (2 for 3, two doubles, four RBIs) and Chris Brown (2 RBIs) led the offense for Lindblom (12-3, 10-1) in the Public League Central West.

– St. Patrick 1, Marist 0-Jason Suarez (3-0) had a three-hitter, and Matt Latourette walked and scored on John Leyden`s fifth-inning triple for St. Patrick (18-8, 6-2) in the East Suburban Catholic.

– Mt. Carmel 2, Washington 1-Mark Williams (1-0) pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the win, and Mt. Carmel (17-6) scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the ninth in a nonconference game.

– Vocational 4, Corliss 2-Jeff Latimore (2 for 2, three RBIs) allowed two hits in five innings and Louis Collier hurled two no-hit innings as Vocational (17-7, 7-2) rolled in the Public Southeast.

– De La Salle 9, St. Ignatius 1-De La Salle (14-15, 8-5) breezed in the Catholic League crossover behind Rocky Lane (three-hitter, eight strikeouts), Matt Taylor (double, two-run homer, four RBIs) and Fernando Ochoa (two-run homer).

– Maine West 4, Glenbrook 3-Scott Prellberg (2 for 2, two RBIs) was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning with the bases loaded to send the go-ahead run across, and winning pitcher Doug Schmitt (5-3) went the distance to lift Maine West (11-7, 6-6) in a Central Suburban crossover.

– Morris 4, Plainfield 2-Dave Wohlwend scattered six hits and Chris Speizio had a double and two RBIs to pace Morris in the Little Seven.

– Grant 3, Johnsburg-Rick Twarowski reached on an error, stole second and scored the winning run on Larry Berwanger`s eighth-inning single to pace Grant (8-11, 6-4) in the Northwest Suburban.

– Woodstock 12, Crystal Lake Central 3-Bill Nolan was 4 for 5 with three RBIs, winning pitcher Joel Bosman was 4 for 4 with two RBIs, and Tim Adams was 4 for 4 with one RBI as Woodstock took over first place in the Fox Valley at 11-3.

– Sandburg 6, Shepard 3-Casey Homoly drove in two runs and Bob Grad scattered six hits to lead Sandburg (12-2, 6-1) in the SICA North.

– Stevenson 8, Libertyville 2-Mark LeGrand was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Mark Robich was 2 for 3 to back Rex Eaman`s 10-hitter for Stevenson (15-10, 9-5) in the North Suburban.

– Juarez 10, Marshall 0-Hector Chavez hurled a two-hitter and fanned nine, and Omar Ramirez and Gustavo Ruiz had two hits apiece for Juarez (21-8, 8-1)

in the Public League West.

– Lake Zurich 10, Round Lake 3-Jeff Anderson allowed two hits, struck out 10 and was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Dan Kraemer was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Lake Zurich (19-7, 8-3) in the Northwest Suburban.

– Maine South 12, Glenbrook South 2-Bob Scafa (10-1) struck out nine in six innings and was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Jim Rushford was 3 for 3 with three RBIs for Maine South (16-5, 11-2) in the Central Suburban League.

– Elgin 3, Lake Park 1-Brian Hensgen`s two-run sixth-inning homer broke a 1-1 tie and propelled Elgin (14-7, 9-5) in the Upstate Eight.

SOFTBALL

– Thornwood 9, Thornridge 3-Tina Zuccolo (14-2, two-hitter, 14 strikeouts), Kristen Paarlberg (3 for 4, one RBI), Shannon Hutson (two RBIs) and Kris Hoese (2 for 3) paced No. 3 Thornwood (21-5, 8-0) in the SICA East.

– Hinsdale South 5, Willowbrook 1-Michelle Stark (16-2) hurled a five-hitter, Jodi Persson had three hits and Tammy Warden two for No. 6 Hinsdale South

(19-3, 7-2) in the West Suburban Gold.

– Lyons 3, Downers North 0-Kristie Hoheisel (15-1) hurled a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts, struck out the side with the bases loaded in the second and contributed a sacrifice fly in the third for No. 7 Lyons (16-3, 9-0) in the West Suburban Silver.

– Joliet Central 6, Andrew 4-Johnel Matison was 2 for 4 and Cindy Konte

(three RBIs) pounded a bases-loaded double to spark Joliet Central (9-9, 5-3) in the SICA West.

– Glenbard East 11, Naperville Central 3-Debbie Yurik (3 for 3) and Maggie Wingstedt (2 for 4, 3 RBIs) led a 13 hit attack as Glenbard South (12-7, 7-4) dominated in the Du Page Valley.

– Rich East 6, Crete-Monee 2-Keri Rickord (10-0) struck out seven and allowed five hits and Mary Wells (3 for 4, triple) drove in three runs as No. 4 Rich East (21-2, 8-0) clinched the SICA South title.

– Thornton Fractional South 3, Tinley Park 0-Amy Brewe (9-1) scattered four hits and Raquel Labioda drove in two runs for No. 8 Thornton Fractional South (19-2, 8-0) in the SICA South.

– Morris 3, Oswego 1-Kindra Phelps (13-2) tossed a three-hitter, struck out eight and singled in the winning run in the third as No. 9 Morris (25-2, 14-0) clinched the Little Seven title.

– Crystal Lake Central 3, Woodstock 1-Diane Sweeney had a two-hitter and Michelle Georgi drove in two runs with a triple and sacrifice fly for Crystal Lake Central (17-2, 7-1) in the Fox Valley Conference.

– Mundelein 12, Fenton 2-Lynette Kowalke (15-3) tossed a four-hitter and was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, Pam Wiesner hit a two-run homer and Ashley Struggles

(two RBIs), Demi Michelau and Katie Magoon all had two hits for Mundelein

(19-4, 13-1) in the North Suburban.

– Minooka 7, Westmont 1-Doris Hayes pitched a no-hitter, struck out 12 and went 3 for 4 for Minooka (9-10, 5-7) in the Northeast Conference.

– Prospect 2, Barrington 1-Jennifer Hernet allowed two hits and fanned five and Aimee Smith reached on an error and scored the winning run on Becky Thorne`s eighth-inning triple for Prospect (13-3, 11-3) in a Mid-Suburban crossover.

– West Chicago 6, Glenbard South-Liz Gernand hit a bases-loaded double and Kelly Mathews gave up four hits and fanned four for West Chicago (14-3, 9-2) in the DuPage Valley.

– Steinmetz 13, Prosser 1-Michelle Menas hurled a six-inning one-hitter and Patricia Williams homered for Steinmetz (9-1, 7-0) in the Public League North. – Benet 8, Riverside-Brookfield 4-Kate Enochs (17-5) struck out 11 and in a seven-hitter and Mary Zahour drove in two runs for Benet Academy (18-8).

– GCAC plaayoffs-St. Viator 1, Carmel 0-Michelle Cichon (12-3) struck out 11 and allowed three hits as St. Viator (12-5) edged Carmel 1-0 in the White Division semis. Janet Roscoe scored Krissy Smith on a fielder`s choice in the sixth.

SOCCER

– Schaumburg 7, Rolling Meadows 0-Alison Lester and Nikki LaPenta each scored two goals and Julie Ciasnocha (4 saves) recorded her ninth shutout and fifth straight for No. 1 Schaumburg (16-0-1, 8-0-1) in the Mid-Suburban South.

– Palatine tourney-Meagan Bauer, Tasha Strawbridge, Nancy Sharapata and Amy Sharpee scored as Palatine (11-3-1) beat Stevenson 4-1.
