Grandma has paid off her house, she`s got all her major appliances, she`s not in need of any new lingerie or baseball tickets . . . and her birthday is next week.
Buy her a trip.
That`s what the National Tour Association is urging. The concept is not new. Travel agents and tour operators have offered gift certificates in the past, but the NTA sees a growing market of hard-to-buy-for people. And their solution is gift certificates for escorted group tours.
The people with everything tend to be over 50 and ”predominantly female,” said Ed Camara of the NTA. And they have money and the inclination to spend it on travel.
”It`s the gift for the person who has everything,” said NTA spokeswoman and former actress Beverly Garland. ”You can spend from $47 to as high as you want to go.”
Gift givers can call 800-284-4682 or write Travel Together, P.O. Box 3071, Lexington, Ky. 40596, for a brochure listing the approximately 575 tour- operator members of the NTA. Or ask a travel agent.
