In reference to your editorial ”A different kind of May Day parade,” it is highly unlikely that the name Red Square would ever be changed to Sakharov Square, or to anything else. It has been called Red or Beautiful Square for centuries. The Russian term ”krasnaya” meant in prior times both

”beautiful” and ”red.”

However, in view of the changes taking place in the Soviet Union, perhaps the preferred translation in the not-too-distant future will be ”beautiful.”
