In the May 8 Tribune, Anna Quindlen wrote about a woman who was raped in Nebraska and about how being raped destroys a woman`s life. She wrote about how being raped changes a woman`s views on security, that ”deterrence centers on the victim. Take self-defense classes. Get good locks. Strike out with your keys in a clenched fist.” She believes that it is ”infuriating” that a woman should have to take charge of her own life and be responsible for her own self-defense.

She quotes the Nebraska woman as saying, ”I started to want to own a gun.” Horrified, Anna Quindlen wrote, ”No. Change the rapists.”

Anna Quindlen wants to change rapist`s attitudes? Fine! When a rapist tries to attack a woman, and he suddenly finds himself looking down the barrel of a gun, or gets shot, that will very quickly change a rapist`s attitude.

And some of the most dangerous types of people are those who want to solve a problem by changing people`s attitudes.
