Writer Constanza Montana made no attempt in her piece on the 10-year anniversary of the Mariel boatlift to counterbalance Fidel Castro`s bigoted categorization of homosexuals as ”scum.”

In any news article concerning a subject about which readers have a difference of opinion, it is standard journalistic practice to balance bigoted and hateful statements with at least one sentence or one quote from another mindset.

As a gay man and a news reporter, I was personally offended and professionally stunned by Montana`s article.
