My father died unexpectedly on May 26. A veteran of World War II, he was buried on Memorial Day. In some strange way, I feel closer to him now.

He lived with my mother in North Carolina. I have lived in Chicago since 1972. We saw each other two or three times each year, spoke on the telephone two or three times a month. Now I can ”talk” with him any time.

I look around around me and the world looks the same-but it is not the same. It has changed forever. My father is no longer here.

So on Father`s Day, all of you with fathers still with you: Love him, hug him, talk with him, tell him you love him.
