Calumet City`s mandatory recycling program has entered its second week, still dogged by controversy.

Ald. Gregory Skubisz, chairman of the City Council`s Public Works Committee, reported last week that the citywide recycling program recovered $3,700 in recyclable materials in its first six days.

But Ald. Margaret Lundy responded: ”He doesn`t tell you about the $11,000 in overtime it took to collect the $3,700.”

Skubisz said 70 percent of the city`s residents are participating in the program.
