A nightmare at Tiger Stadium in Detroit turned into a dream telephone call for the mayor of Kalamazoo.
Mayor Edward Annen, a 1973 University of Michigan graduate and ardent fan of former football coach Bo Schembechler, detailed the problems of his trip Sunday to Tigers Stadium in a letter to Schembechler, president of the Tigers. Annen described how four box seats promised to him by Tigers ticket personnel for a game against California weren`t available after he had made the three-hour trip with his son and two of his son`s friends. They watched the game from the bleachers.
After the game, Annen found that vandals had slashed the top of his four- week-old convertible and stolen the car telephone.
After reading the letter, Schembechler called Annen.
”I went nuts,” said Annen, who was a 140-pound, freshman walk-on wide receiver at Michigan for four days in 1969.
Schembechler offered Annen four free front-row box seats for the July 29 game against Boston and said he would send Tiger memorabilia to Annen`s son and his two friends.
