Dodger Stadium was spared Thursday night`s aerial pesticide spraying against the Medfly-and that has activists angry.
”It`s absolutely unreal,” said former Monterey Park Mayor Patricia Reichenberger. ”Here are thousands of people complaining about spraying and out of the blue they exempt Dodger Stadium.”
Helicopters dropping malathion-laced syrup on a 14-square-mile area avoided the ballpark because it lacks the fruit trees that lure Mediterranean fruit flies, said County Agricultural Commissioner E. Leon Spaugy.
The flies are disastrous for the state`s multibillion-dollar agriculture industry.
