A shift in attitudes among shoppers was credited by Sears Canada Inc. for a decision to open 21 stores in Ontario beginning Sunday. Sears Canada has been a longtime opponent of Sunday shopping, but it said recent Sunday sales by competitors ”would suggest that a number of Ontario consumers are and will continue to shop on Sunday.” An Ontario court recently ruled unconstitutional the government`s law prohibiting most retail stores from opening on Sundays.
