The Downers Grove Village Council this week approved amendments to its sprinkling ordinance to allow daily watering of newly planted trees and newly seeded lawns for a three-week period.

The village previously has made this exception to its every-other-day sprinkling plan for newly sodded lawns. People who get these special permits must pay a $30 fee.

The village also agreed to let residents use water for one to three days, at a cost of $5 per day, for paving driveways and for wall masonry work in homes.

Homes in the village with addresses ending in even numbers are allowed to sprinkle on even-numbered days and those with addresses ending in odd numbers may sprinkle on odd-numbered days. Sprinkling is forbidden between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. every day.
