Warner V. Nelson, 71, president of Nelson Roofing Co. of Chicago, died Wednesday in Resurrection Hospital. He was a 1940 graduate of Northwestern University and attended the Northwestern School of Law for two years until he was drafted into the Army. He served in the 325th ”Checkertail” Fighter Group. He was one of the founders of the Robert McCormick Boys Club and served on the founding committee for the Leaning Tower YMCA in Niles. He was a past president of the North Shore Kiwanis Club. In 1989, he was elevated to a life-member status in Kiwanis International. He was a member of the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in Valley of Chicago. Survivors include his wife, Yarmila; two daughters, Linda DuClos and Nancy Sorenson; a son, Warner Jr.; and five grandchildren. Services were held Saturday in Edgebrook Lutheran Church, 5252 W. Devon Ave.
