The Du Page Environmental Awareness Center has authorized a study to determine the feasibility of an educational program in area schools on solid- waste reduction and recycling.

Ruth Lauer, of Westmont, and Sherry Rady, of Lombard, will undertake the study, which is being funded by the Chicago Community Trust, and they are to report their findings by Oct. 1.

William Borden, executive director of the awareness center, which seeks to prevent ecological deterioration in Du Page County, said, ”The county`s residents generate 5.5 pounds of waste per person per day compared to a national average of 3.6 pounds.”
