”The Ceremony of Drinking,” a show opening Saturday at Lill Street Gallery, 1021 W. Lill St., offers one-of-a-kind cups, saucers and teapots that could make the simple chore of drinking a true celebration.

To kick-off the show, which runs through Sept. 12, the gallery will use artist-made cups to serve iced tea and cafe au lait, compliments of Something`s Brewing, 2677 N. Lincoln Ave., from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Items on display will include a whimsical porcelain teapot with inlaid colored clay designs by Debra Parker-Kuhns, a high-fired porcelain teapot and cups by Annette Siffin, and ”flower” teacups with ”lily pad” saucers in terra cotta with majolica glazes by Ellen Levenhagen.

The unusual display proves that everyday, practical objects need not be dull.
