My identical twin daughters and I very much enjoyed your article on twins (”Alter Egos,” by Lynn Emmerman, with photos by Jean-Claude Figenwald) in your July 1 Magazine. My daughters are interested in attending the annual twins festival held in Twinsburg, Ohio. It`s probably too late for this year, but we`d like to plan on it for next year. Any information you can give me will be appreciated.

After reading Lynn Emmerman`s article for the third time, I felt compelled to write. I, too, am an identical twin. While Ms. Emmerman states the admirable and unique features of being a twin, it also has serious disadvantages.
It is not healthy to function and live out one`s life through your twin. Nor is it healthy to ignore the nurturing and development of relationships with people other than your twi. It is most unfortunate that a number of twins know only of one world: theirs.
So, all you twins out there, take a good look at each other and say,
”Get a life!” I finally did after my twin sister moved out of state. It was the most painful separation that I have ever experienced.

I have to admit I was both surprised and appalled at the cover of your Magazine of July 1, showing a photograph of a pair of twins wrapped in the American flag (or material of a reasonable facsimile).
With all the current controversy regarding burning the flag, walking on the flag, etc., I think this cover was in extremely poor taste.

IRREVERSIBLY JIMMY CARTER
Respect, you may have decided, has finally come to Jimmy Carter
(”Finally, Respect,” by Timothy J. McNulty, July 8). But is he so unsure of himself, still, that he doesn`t know which hand to wear his wedding ring on? On the cover photo, it`s on his right hand. Inside, on page 10, it has moved to the correct spot on his left hand. And people make jokes about Gerald Ford? SOURCE: SEYMOUR J. BURROWS Chicago
It`s not Jimmy Carter who`s confused, it`s us. The cover photo was inadvertently reversed, making it appear that Carter is wearing his wedding ring and wristwatch on his right hand and arm. The Magazine regrets the error.-Ed.
FOCUSING ON FAMILIES
We want to thank you for continuing to highlight family issues in the Magazine (”No Mom Is an Island,” by Florence Hamlish Levinsohn, June 10). It is a tremendous vehicle to inform and educate the public. As the director of Family Focus Lincoln Park and a longtime worker in the field of family resource and support programs, I am always gratified to see high-quality articles devoted to family concerns.
