The recent letter from a Kenosha, Wis., resident in favor of the death penalty was quite interesting. In the letter, the writer says that if the death penalty were enforced, it would be more of a deterrent than it is. The writer goes on to state that in the days when the death penalty was heavily enforced, people felt safe to ”go anywhere, any time of the day or night,”

because of the death penalty.

Perhaps the writer has not always lived in Kenosha; in that case, it may be that the writer`s statement about the death penalty`s enforcement in ”the old days” is true.

However, lest some readers get the wrong idea, I feel it is necessary for me to point out that Wisconsin has not had a death penalty since 1853.
