This has been a big year for second-generation rock, most notably by Wilson Phillips, a fresh-voiced trio made up of two Beach Boy daughters
(Carnie and Wendy Wilson), plus one offspring of the Mamas and the Papas
(Chynna Phillips). Now comes Nelson, a rock group fronted by Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, twin sons of the late Rick Nelson. Unfortunately, ”After the Rain” has little to offer once one gets past the opening track, ”(Can`t Live Without Your) Love and Affection,” a power-pop winner rising fast on the singles charts. The Nelsons are decent enough guitar players and singers, but have yet to put together a strong sound for their band, which relies heavily on `70s-style riffs that vaguely recall Boston and Foreigner (”I Can Hardly Wait,” ”More Than Ever”), then noodles around with ”acoustic interludes” that go nowhere.
