In the Aug. 17 article ”Woman shows court 3 identities,” a writer uses interesting terminology to describe the time following a rape. A man raped a woman, and the writer goes on to say, ”After the couple had sex . . . ”
Being a victim of a rapist under no circumstances makes one part of a
”couple,” and the act of rape is rarely, if ever, construed as ”having sex.” The latter is voluntary; the former is not.
