An Elmhurst man was being held Monday in Du Page County Jail in lieu of $28,000 bond on charges of unlawful use of a weapon after police found five pipe bombs in his home late Saturday.
Police on Saturday went to the home of Thomas B. Baker of 487 Argyle Ave. to serve a warrant for his arrest for unlawful use of weapons. While there, they discovered an arsenal of weapons that included a sword, a machete, five pipe bombs and numerous firearms.
Baker, who told police he was ”a ghost hunter,” said he made the pipe bombs ”to defend against Satan worshipers.”
The southern section of nearby Argyle Apartments was evacuated while the Du Page County Sheriff`s Department bomb squad dismantled the pipe bombs, the largest of which was about 12 inches long and 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
