Barbara ”Bonnie” Coe, 71, a longtime community activist in Evanston, was past president of the Evanston Township High School Parent-Teachers Association, the Evanston Garden Club and the Guild of the Evanston Historical Society.
She helped found and direct the guild`s annual flea market and was recipient last week of its first service honor which now will be known as the Bonnie Coe Award.
A lifelong resident of Evanston, she died Wednesday in Evanston Hospital.
In addition to naming the historical society award for her, the guild intends to plant a garden of 500 daffodils to be called the ”Bonnie Coe Garden.”
Mrs. Coe not only served as the guild`s president, but also was a trustee of the Evanston Historical Society.
A graduate of Roycemore School, she earned a bachelor`s degree from the University of Arizona.
Mrs. Coe was president of the high school`s PTA in the late 1960s.
Survivors include her husband, James; three daughters, Dale C. Schultz, Deborah Reed and Sally Bay; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services for Mrs. Coe will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, 1427 Chicago Ave., in the suburb.
