I found the ”Beetle Bailey” cartoon that ran in the Sept. 7 issue and later issues of the Tribune to be disgustingly racist. This stereotyping of the Japanese is made worse by the fact that the character ”Joe Yo” is a corporal in a comic about the U.S. Army, and therefore an American citizen.

I think we did enough harm to Japanese Americans during World War II by putting them in internment camps, when we did not feel the need to do the same with German and Italian Americans. This strip takes us nearly 50 years backward.

I am gravely disappointed in the Tribune for running this.
