The McHenry City Council has decided against joining many of its northwest suburban neighbors in banning leaf burning. The vote was 5 to 2.

City Administrator Jerry Peterson said despite the availability of free leaf dropoff sites and a pay-per-bag curbside pickup program, the city`s staff does not believe there are enough leaf disposal alternatives given the large number of trees.

The City Council ordered the staff to include the leaf problem in a study of the city`s solid waste disposal system.
