Paul Galloway`s story Oct. 1 on Jackie Collins was too good not to be saluted. I became aware of it as I heard my sister laughing aloud over the pages of the Tribune. Then I received the object of the chuckles and read it. I must say that I haven`t chortled since I last read Wodehouse. Few things written rate a chortle these days, but that piece did.
I also appreciated Mr. Galloway`s article on the Jesuits. Upon being introduced to me on social occasions, some people inquire, ”Are you a Jesuit?” Often my reply is: ”No, I`m a Catholic.”
I then push on to say that only those educated by Jesuits are to be indulged for such flippancy. Both my sister and I went to Jesuit schools, and I had the pleasure of teaching in some of them. I have known those who were wise and witty and others who were (and are) dumb and venal. But as a group they certainly have impacted on society.
