– Evanston 4, Maine West 2-Vinton Francis netted two goals and Robert Gary and Mike Cornell one each to lift No. 2 Evanston (15-0-5, 8-0-1) in the Central Suburban League.
– St. Joseph 4, St. Patrick 0-Julio Salverredy scored two goals for St. Joseph (11-3-2, 5-2-2) in the East Suburban Catholic regular-season finale.
– Antioch 1, Crystal Lake Central 0-Antioch (12-5-1) prevailed on Alan Noon`s second-quarter goal as goaltenders Jon Schulz and Phil Rindlaub (four saves each) combined for the Sequoits` seventh shutout.
– Carmel 3, Benet Academy 1-Matt Mokszycki, Matt Stasiek and Dan Henrichs each scored a goal as Carmel (14-2-2, 9-0-1) won its fourth straight East Suburban Catholic title.
– Homewood-Flossmoor 4, Oak Forest 1-Javier Marin, Greg Fink, Steve Montgomery and Bob Nolting each scored a goal for Homewood-Flossmoor (154-3-2) in the SICA crossover.
– Lincoln-Way 4, Joliet West 0-Ken Kolozy`s hat trick raised his goal production to 21 for the season and goaltender Brian Azgeris had six saves en route to his third shutout (team`s fifth) for Lincoln-Way (8-7-2, 7-4 in the SICA West).
– Bolingbrook 1, Lyons 0-Adam Vicchiollo scored the goal and goaltender Mark Pawlak had five saves en route to his sixth shutout of the season for Bolingbrook (9-4-3).
– Lake Zurich 5, Johnsburg 3-J.P. Siegwald scored four goals to lift Lake Zurich (10-4-4, 7-0) in the Northwest Suburban Conference.
– Stagg 9, Richards 1-Cleat Murdaugh and Nick Giannakopoulos scored three goals apiece as Stagg (9-8-1, 6-4-1) breezed in the SICA North.
– Fenwick 6, St. Ignatius 1-Frank Bifero had two goals and an assist to lift Fenwick (10-7-3, 5-3-1) to the Catholic League victory.
– Morton 1, Glenbard West 1-Abelino Tovar scored for Morton (10-3-3) in the regular-season ending West Suburban crossover.
– Grayslake 4, Fenton 1-Steve Hamil netted two goals for Grayslake (5-5-2) in the nonconference match.
– Elgin 4, East Aurora 0-Brad Huerta, Brett Eliel, Sean Kennedy and Alan Oates each scored a goal and goaltenders Kurt Ludwig and Jason Koth shared the shutout for Elgin (13-5-2, 4-4-1 in the Upstate Eight).
– Marist 2, Notre Dame 0-Joe Van Hecke and Krys Camper had one goal apiece to lift Marist (11-5-1, 6-2 in the East Suburban Catholic).
CROSS COUNTRY
– West Suburban Gold Conference meet-Dan Mazur of Leyden cruised to the individual title while Downers Grove South edged Hinsdale South 47-51 in the team competition. Mazur clocked 14:56 for the 2.97 mile course at Lombard Commons Park. In girls action, Downers Grove South, led by a 1-2-3 finish, easily outdistanced runner-up Willowbrook 21-53. Julie Klinkberg (11:48), Myrna Cantu (11:52) and Melinda Wagner (11:54) were the leaders over the 1.97- mile course.
– SICA East meet-Bloom, led by Joe DeLeon (first in 16:01 for 3 miles), Noel Garcia (second in 16:02) and Joel Brooks (third in 16:10) took team honors 25-56 over Homewood-Flossmoor at Veterans Park in South Holland. Homewood-Flossmoor captured the girls title 31-54 over Thornwood behind third place finisher Beth Engel (11:59 over 2 miles). The individual winner was Shawn Crawford of Thornwood with a time of 11:51.
– West Suburban Silver Conference meet-York won its 13th straight conference title and 28th in the last 30 tries by beating runner-up Oak Park 21-67. Bob Reed continued to shine for York clocking 14:26 for the 2.85 mile course. For the girls, Glenbard West edged Downers Grove North 41-48 despite the first-place finish of Erica Chesney who ran 13:23 for 2.23 miles.
– Mid-Suburban League meet-Wheeling`s Ron Rosset remained undefeated with a time of 15:13 over 2.95 miles. Hoffman Estates coasted to the team title with 34 points. Amy Seigel made it a sweep for Wheeling as she edged rival Tricia Huber of Palatine by eight seconds with a time of 13:09 for 2.2 miles. ”This win shows that Ron is a definite contender for the state title,” said Wheeling coach Mark Saylor. ”And Amy had control of the race from start to finish. I was very happy with our performance today.”
– Catholic League meet-St. Rita placed two runners in the top 10, seventh-place Derek Drummond and eighth-place Ricado Gerrera, to win the
championship 65-67 over St. Laurence. Fenwick`s Dan McGuigan won the individual title by 14 seconds, running three miles in 15:40.
– East Suburban Catholic Conference meet-Marist, with three runers in the top 10, totalled 43 to beat runner-up Benet (50). St. Joseph`s Gus Coronado won the individual title.
– Fox Valley Conference meet-Erin Boland, one of the top girls runners in the state, ran 2.25 miles in 13:16 to win the individual championship and lead her school to the team crown. In the boys meet, Crystal Lake Central won the team title and McHenry`s Jeff Clark the individual crown.
– Little Seven Conference meet-Oswego had the first four finishers-in order, Kevin Schnable, Craig Paxton, Chris Cox, and Chris Shaw-to win the boys team championship. Waubonsie Valley and Plainfield`s Jenny Lisy were the girls winners.
– North Suburban Conference meet-Niles North`s Vadim Nemad was an easy winner in the 3-mile boys race with a time of 15:17 that put him 36 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Libertyville won the boys team title. Libertyville won the girls crown with the race`s top four finishers.
– SICA North meet-Jason Rush and Dave Eaton crossed the finish line first and second to lead Stagg to the boys team title. Sandburg, with individual champ Cheryl Paskvan, won the girls championship.
– SICA South meet-Crete-Monee won the boys and girls team titles. Rich East`s Lonnie Schultz and Kankakee`s Kim Becker were the individual winners.
– SICA West meet-Lockport`s Robert Rodriguez was the first man across the finish line, running three miles in 15:31, but Lincoln-Way runners took the next three spots to lead their school to the team title.
– Girls Catholic Conference meet-Stacey Billish won the individual title to lead Mother McAuley, with five runners in the top 10, to the team
championship.
