The Paul Simon and Lynn Martin for U.S. Senate campaigns dueled over television ads again Thursday, after Martin began running a 30-second anti-incumbent spot.
The new ad features voters expressing their frustration with Congress, with one voter lamenting the loss of ”trust . . . with the people in Washington.”
Martin, an incumbent Republican member of the U.S. House trying to play the role of an outsider, is shown saying: ”Maybe we need some brooms to give to Congress . . . time to sweep up.”
The Simon campaign responded with a reminder that Martin ”seems to be forgetting she`s been in Congress for 10 years. She can`t cover up 10 years of incumbency 10 days before the election by posturing herself as a `new person.` ”
Democrat Simon is completing his first term in the Senate.
