It seems that the budget deficit is always some else`s fault. News commentators, columnists and political experts speculate endlessly on the question of who will get the blame for this or that outcome. To settle the question once and for all, I`ve put together a list of the most popular choices who at one time or another have been blamed for the budget deficit:

George Bush, Richard Darmen, Saddam Hussein, Ivan Boesky, Allen Greenspan, Congress, lobbyists, the Democrats, the Republicans, the media, conservatives, liberals, S&L crooks, voters, non-voters, special interest groups, PACs, political pollsters, state and local politicians, 30-second sound-bite abusers, the wealthy, the poor, minorities, Japan, Cold War-mongers and last but not least, Ronald Reagan.

If I missed anyone I apologize . . . at least no one can blame me for not having tried to shed some light on all this finger-pointing.
