I am amazed at the ignorance of those who would vote against Secretary of State Jim Edgar for governor because he advocates stricter drinking laws. On Oct. 15, the press quoted a bar owner as saying that these laws are ”too strict” and unfairly hurt the ”working-class guy.”
First of all, as we all know, alcohol consumption knows no class boundaries and these ”too-strict” laws may prevent the murder of innocent people by a drunk at the wheel. Let us not forget the vested interest that these bar owners are trying to protect.
