Two South Side men were found fatally shot Monday afternoon in a fish restaurant on East 61st Street.
The bodies of Ulysses McDonald, 50, of 312 E. 60th St., and Leroy Taylor, 48, of 6628 S. Parnell Ave., were found at McDonald`s Fishery, 412 E. 61st St., police said.
Both men had been shot once in the head, police said. There were no signs of a struggle, and no cash or merchandise was missing, police said.
McDonald had operated the restaurant and carry-out store for about three years, according to a neighbor who said he was McDonald`s landlord and had known him for seven years. The man, who requested anonymity, said that there had been a fire in 1988 and that the fish shop had to be rebuilt. It reopened about six weeks ago, the man said.
The bodies were discovered after someone called the store manager wondering why the restaurant wasn`t open, police said. The manager discovered the bodies and called police, who arrived at 3:12 p.m., said Lt. George Jones of the Grand Crossing District.
The bodies were found in the rear of the restaurant, police said. Both men were wearing work uniforms, jackets and hats.
When the manager found the bodies, the restaurant was closed, though it was scheduled to be open, police said.
There was confusion over whether the restaurant had been open Sunday, with one police official speculating that the shootings could have occurred Sunday evening. But another police official said the bodies had been in the restaurant since at least Saturday and possibly longer. Some people from the surrounding area told police that McDonald`s van had been parked outside since Friday, Jones said.
