More than 50 percent of the land and 35 percent of the money spent by the Du Page County Forest Preserve Commission to acquire land in the last two years has been in the southwestern part of the county, according to a report presented Tuesday to the commission.
According to the report, the commission has spent nearly $43 million in the last two years to acquire 1,378 acres. The total brings to 2,304 acres the land acquired since the commission launched a $100 million purchase program nearly three years ago. Since December 1987 the commission has spent more than $62 million on land purchases.
Of the 1,378 acres acquired in the last two years, 721 acres has been in County Board District 5 in southwestern Du Page. The next largest amount was 347 acres in northern Du Page.
