Scott Studwell, the Minnesota Vikings` all-time leading tackler, said pressure from his family has made him consider retiring.
”They all want me to retire,” said the 36-year-old Studwell. ”They know it`s really starting to take a toll on me physically. It gets more difficult every year, and they`re more concerned about the long-term effects than the short term. That`s fine. I understand that and respect their opinions.”
Studwell, who is playing in his 14th season with the Vikings and is the team`s oldest player, has led the team in tackles eight seasons, including last year. He holds the team record for most 100-plus tackle seasons and leads all players on the active roster in starts.
”I`ve given some thought, but I have not made a final decision,” said the former Illinois standout, who has played in two Pro Bowls. ”I`ll maybe be able to make a decision in the next couple, three weeks.”
