Eighty-three years ago Americans began the tradition of giving each other the gift of good health by supporting Christmas seals. This year the tradition continues as Christmas seals from the Chicago Lung Association arrive by mail to thousands of Cook County homes.

Funds raised through the sale of Christmas seals go to fight all lung diseases, including cancer, asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, neonatal distress syndrome and, with far less frequency than before, tuberculosis. The Chicago Lung Association uses Christmas Seal money to help our family members, friends and neighbors with lung disease. It also helps to keep people like you and me from getting lung disease because we are all at risk.

Lung disease, including lung cancer, is the third most common cause of death in the United States today, with an estimated 23.7 million Americans suffering from some form of chronic lung disease. So when you are searching for the perfect gift this holiday season, give the gift of healthy lungs-symbolized by Christmas Seals. Remember, ”It`s a matter of life and breath.”
